Stop Fighting Your Sidel Oven: Better IR Lamps That Actually Fit
If you’ve ever spent an afternoon wrestling with replacement lamps that almost fit your Sidel SBO or Matrix machine, you know how frustrating it is. When the heat isn’t consistent, everything goes sideways. You end up with preforms that aren’t warm enough or, even worse, plastic that’s starting to burn. We decided to fix that. We make infrared lamps that are true drop-in replacements. No hacking, no tweaking, no headaches. The “Will it Fit?” Part Here is the deal: for a lamp to actually work, the electrical load, the length, and the connectors have to be spot on. We match the voltage and wattage of the SBO oven exactly. Why does that matter? Because if the wattage is too low, your bottle walls end up uneven. Too high? You’re scorching your product. We use standard R7s and SK15 connectors. That means you just pop the old one out and slide the new one in. You don’t have to touch the wiring or mess with the holders. It just works. The Science (Minus the Boring Stuff) We use high-purity quartz glass because these things go through a lot of thermal shock when they cycle on and off. We also add a specific coating to the glass. Instead of just heating up the air inside the oven, this coating pushes the heat directly into the PET preform. It’s faster and more efficient. Plus, we use a halogen cycle inside the tube to stop tungsten from clouding the glass. This keeps your light output steady so the lamps don’t fade out prematurely. A Quick Heads-Up from the Shop Floor These lamps put out a lot of heat to keep your cycle times fast. But there’s a catch. If you’re running them at full blast, your cooling blowers have to work overtime. If your cooling system is clogged with dust or just wearing out, those reflectors can overheat. That’s a quick way to kill a perfectly good lamp. Do yourself a favor: every time you swap out a burnt-out tube, take a second to clean your reflectors. It takes a minute, but it ensures all that heat is actually hitting the preform and not just baking your equipment.
