
Stop the Constant Lamp Swaps on Your SIG Blomax Lines
There is nothing more frustrating than a production line grinding to a halt because another lamp burned out. If you’re running SIG Blomax lines, you know the drill. Your OEE takes a hit, the team gets stressed, and you’re back to swapping tubes for the hundredth time this month. Most standard lamps just aren’t built for this. They can’t handle the constant “on-off-on” thermal cycling needed to heat PET preforms. They just snap. So, we decided to build something that actually lasts. Getting the heat right Here is the thing: heating PET is a balancing act. You need it hot enough to soften the plastic, but not so hot that you scorch it. We spent a lot of time messing with the quartz wall thickness and the filament tension. The result? A lamp that doesn’t freak out under the mechanical stress of high-wattage work. It fits exactly where the original one did, but it handles the electrical load without breaking a sweat. The “little things” that matter We looked closely at where these tubes usually fail—the end-cap seals. Standard tubes often crack right at the pinch seal when they cool down. Once that happens, air leaks in, the filament oxidizes, and the lamp dies. We changed the sealing process to lock that air out. And then there are the connectors. We’ve all seen those loose fits that cause an arc, burn the socket, and kill the lamp instantly. We tightened the tolerances so you can just plug it in and actually forget about it for a while. One quick heads-up Now, “tougher” doesn’t mean “zero maintenance.” These lamps put out some serious shortwave IR radiation. Because they run hotter and longer, you’ve got to keep an eye on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling fans are choked with dust, that ambient heat is going to build up and kill the lamp, no matter how well it’s built. Just keep the airflow clear, and these things will do their job.
