Getting Your PET Preforms Heated Right (Without the Headache)
If you’re running high-speed lines like a Krones Contiform or a Husky HyPET, you already know the struggle. The biggest pain in the neck is heat penetration. It’s a frustrating balancing act. If the heat doesn’t hit the core of the preform evenly, you end up with wonky wall thickness or, even worse, bottles that just fail. Most people try to fix this by cranking up the heat, but then you just scorch the outside of the plastic. We got tired of that. So, we built replacement lamps that actually get into the center of the material faster, without burning the surface.
How it actually works
Here’s the thing: standard lamps waste a lot of energy just heating the surface. We tweaked the infrared spectrum so the radiation actually sinks deeper into the PET. By messing with the wattage and voltage, we bumped up the heat density. This means the preform hits that perfect blowing temperature much faster. The result? A smooth, uniform thermal profile. You can finally push your machine speed higher without constantly worrying about those annoying “cold spots” ruining your batch.
No fancy installs required
We didn’t want you to have to rebuild your entire oven just to use these. They’re simple drop-in replacements. We used high-purity quartz glass because it can take the beating of rapid thermal cycling without cracking. Whether you’re using R7s or Sk15 bases, the connectors match your existing footprint. You just plug them in and go. Plus, we used a specific halogen fill. This keeps the color temperature stable, so the lamps don’t lose their punch as they get older.
One quick heads-up
There is a trade-off. When you push more energy into the preform, your oven’s cooling system has to work harder. If your ventilation is a bit dusty or just wasn’t built for this kind of load, the ambient temperature in the oven will climb. It’s a good idea to give your airflow filters a quick check when you swap in these tubes. You don’t want your electronics overheating just because the lamps are doing their job too well.
