Making Your Sacmi PET Lamps Actually Work (Without the Headache)
If you’re running Sacmi machines—or pretty much any PET blower—you know the drill. You need those shortwave infrared lamps to get your preforms ready for stretching, and you need them to work perfectly. Every single time. We didn’t want to make just another “part.” We wanted to make a lamp that actually fits. That’s why we focused on the only three things that really matter: the electrical load, the physical size, and how the heat actually hits the plastic. Getting the fit right There is nothing worse than trying to force a lamp into a holder where it doesn’t belong. We’ve kept our tolerances tight on the length and diameter of the quartz tubes so they just… slide in. No modifying holders. No swearing at the machine. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to match your voltage and wattage to your oven. If you get that wrong, you’re looking at uneven heating or lamps that burn out way too fast. Also, a quick tip—keep your cooling fans clean. High-wattage tubes put out a ton of heat to keep your cycle times fast, but if the air isn’t moving, your oven housing is going to take a beating. The guts of the lamp We use high-purity quartz glass because these things go through a brutal cycle of heating and cooling. They have to be tough. For the connections, we stuck with standard R7s and SK15. Why? Because they create a solid electrical contact. You don’t want to see arcing when you’re pushing high loads. We even added a special coating to some of our lamps. It shifts the infrared spectrum so the heat actually soaks into the PET wall instead of just scorching the surface. Real-world use The best part? You aren’t locked into some brand-specific ecosystem. These lamps are standardized, so they work across different generations of machines. They’re built to survive the heat, and the halogen cycle helps keep the filament from evaporating too quickly. Just a word of advice: don’t push your voltage to the absolute limit. If you stay within 5% of the rated voltage, you’ll get the best balance of raw power and a long lifespan. It’s simple. It fits. It works.
